Accessibility statement
hoa.to is used by volunteer board members, managers and owners of every age and ability. We want every one of them to be able to pay dues, read notices, vote and manage their community without help.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA across the public website, the owner portal and the management console. WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard referenced by the US Department of Justice rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and is widely used to judge accessibility under Title III; Canadian provincial standards build on the same guidelines; Ontario's AODA references WCAG 2.0 Level AA.
Conformance status: partially conformant. Most of the service meets the standard, and we are working on the parts that do not yet, listed below.
What we do
- Testing with automated WCAG 2.2 AA tools across the public pages, the owner portal and the management console, on desktop and mobile, plus keyboard-only checks of key tasks such as signing up.
- Text and controls meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio. A community's own brand colour is darkened automatically where needed so it stays readable.
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, starts with a “Skip to main content” link, and shows a clearly visible focus outline.
- Form fields have labels, error messages appear next to the field they belong to, and buttons and links have names a screen reader can read.
- Pages use headings and landmarks in a logical order, support browser zoom to 400%, and respect the “reduce motion” setting.
- The site works on phones and tablets without sideways scrolling, and tables that are wider than the screen can be scrolled with a keyboard.
Known limitations
- Documents your association uploads, such as scanned PDFs of bylaws or minutes, may not be accessible. We can help convert important documents on request.
- Third-party services you connect, such as payment pages or e-signature providers, follow their own accessibility standards.
- We have not yet completed a full manual audit with screen readers on every screen. If something does not work for you, please tell us and we will prioritise it.
